Barnsley House Hotel, Cirencester

Chessmann project managed a £2.5 million scheme to create an innovatory spa and garden at this luxury hotel, which is the former home of legendary gardener, designer and writer, Rosemary Verev.

We were appointed to manage the architect, design team and builders, coordinating their respective roles for the hotel owners.

The project combined the latest in contemporary building and horticultural design with the traditional rural setting of the 17th century Cotswold stone manor house. The spa itself included a stream room, sauna and hydrotherapy pool, and treatment rooms.

Cyfartha Sports Hall, Merthyr Tydfil

We were involved in the construction of a new £1 million sports hall next to an existing secondary school and proposed primary school for Merthyr Borough Council. Acting as project and cost managers, as well as CDM Coordinators, there were issues such as ensuring that intensive groundworks were carried out for site stability before work started in June 2006, as the area was once heavily mined for both coal and iron.

All facilities have full disabled access, and are adaptable for a variety of uses and activities by both students and the local community.
